Makayla's Story

 

Makayla Milnes was born with CHARGE syndrome. She has undergone many surgeries, the first of which was to shave away some webbing that was around her voice box. The surgery was to help her eat without her food going into her lungs. On 7/12/13, she underwent a 3 hour, major surgery to repair her airway, however, there was more tissue blocking then originally thought. Makayla ended up losing her airway and died. The only way for the surgeon to save her was to place an emergency trache. Makayla was on a ventilator for a while when she was in the PICU. She is a fighter though. Everyday she gets a little stronger. We occasionally find new problems that pop up. Thankfully everything so far is "fixable". Please pray for this sweet baby girl and her parents as they go through this unimaginable journey.
